LLR - London Bikeathon 2012 · 16 September 2012 ·

We're dedicated to beating blood cancer. We fund research and support those affected. Since 1960, we've invested over £500 million in blood cancer research, transforming treatments and saving lives. The day we beat blood cancer is now in sight and our researchers are determined to finish the job.

Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit this page.

On the 16th September Jimmy and I will be taking part in the London Bikeathon 2012 in order to raise money for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research. There are several distances you can attempt so we are of course going for the longest - the Box Hill Endurance route - which is 75 + miles and includes Box Hill and Leith Hill.

We will be riding in memory of my dad who died from non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma last year and to try and help others that are fighting this awful disease. There are so many people losing the battle every day and so many families dealing with everything that this devastating disease brings and leaves in its wake.

Watching dad suffer, deteriorate and pass away before our eyes was heartbreaking. He deserved so much more and I miss him every single day.

If I was a scientist I would work tirelessly for a cure for such a cruel disease (as so many do) but I am not……so cycling it is (although I am quickly learning I am not much of a cyclist either!).

Please consider making a donation if it is a charity you support.

Sending love

p.s as a small aside (and if it encourages you to donate a little bit more) if we survive the London Bikethon attempt we will also be attempting the 100 mile Coast to Coast on October 7th from Minehead to Salcombe again in memory of my dad. This will be an outrageous challenge and one that I for one don’t stand any chance of completing in daylight. For the cyclists among you the route takes you over both Exmoor and Dartmoor meaning 10 grade 5 ascents and 2 grade 3 ascents to try and overcome! We are likely to be out on our bikes for a good 12 hours…and the rest!
