Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I've set myself the challenge of running the Bournemouth Half Marathon on Sunday 9th October. I'm not the keenest of runners, but have (mostly) enjoyed training for this and look forward to ticking it off the bucket list! π€ΈββοΈ
Although a personal challenge, I am also motivated by running in aid of The Wave Project, which is an amazing charity working with young and vulnerable people through surf therapy. π
Founded in 2010, The Wave Project recognised the undeniable powers that surfing has on those who have difficulties with their mental health and/or who are physically challenged. It offers a safe community and truly allows a sense of calm and connection to one another. The Wave Project's sole aim is to enable young people who are struggling to prove to themselves that "I can do it!". π
The Mental Health Foundation claims that 50% of mental health problems are established by age 14 and 75% by age 24. Working with young people aged between 8 and 21, The Wave Projectβs work is fundamental in reducing this statistic. With further support, they will be able to reach more and more young people. π€
The charityβs model has expanded from Cornwall across the South West of England to North Yorkshire, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, and London, where they continue to use surf therapy in supporting children and their mental health. π«Ά
As a regular volunteer for the Wave Project Dorset, I get to see first hand how much this charity improves the lives of young and vulnerable people, and itβs pretty special. β¨
If you feel as though you can chip in and support, I know the funds will be very well received by The Wave Project for the continuation and development of Surf Therapy. π
Thank you in advance for your kindness and support, wish me luck! π
