WALK IT Manchester 2020 · 6 June 2020 ·

We’re the UK’s leading charity for Crohn’s and Colitis. Right now, over 500,000 people in the UK are living with a lifelong disease that many people have never heard of. We’re working to improve diagnosis and treatment; to fund research and to raise awareness.

Story

I was diagnosed in 2012 with Crohns' Disease (Inflammatory Bowel Disease). This was just before my 18th birthday, and during the midst of important A Levels. I had signs of something similar throughout my life (I don't remember a time being truly well or in a fit state), but it took till I was 18 to be diagnosed and surprisingly enough through a referral from my Dentist.

The past 8 years have been a struggle! I've tried many different medications from oral medicine to infusions, without a break through. Last year I was unfortunately admitted in to hospital when I hit rock bottom weighing just 8 stone and bleeding heavily.

It affects me every day but I'm lucky enough to be responding positively to treatment for the first time in my life. The recent passing of my Auntie Caron, due to complications that arose from Cancer treatment, has spurred me on to try and make a difference in my own treatment and those that suffer alongside me.

I have a great family, a wonderful fiancé and a great IBD team. Any money raised could make my future more enjoyable, and you never know we could find a cure! This goes a little way to helping that happen.

The Charity - We’re the UK’s leading charity for Crohn’s and Colitis. Right now, over 300,000 people in the UK are living with a lifelong disease that many people have never heard of. And the real number could be almost double that.Because of the stigma and misunderstanding surrounding these diseases, thousands of people are suffering in silence. But they’re not alone. We’re working to improve diagnosis and treatment, and to fund research into a cure; to raise awareness and to give people hope, comfort and confidence to live freer, fuller lives.
