Story
“You don’t have to struggle in silence”… and yet so many do. For so long mental health has been seen as such a taboo subject, when in reality, it’s something that impacts all of us in some way, shape or form. 1 in 4 of us are likely to suffer with our mental health at some point in our lives and statistics show that men are much less likely to open up and talk about their struggles. ‘Suicide Prevention’ found that in fact 75% of all suicides are male and around 84 men take their own lives each week.
Sadly, we lost someone we hold very close in our hearts. Chris was a happy, hardworking all-round beautiful person, and showed very few signs of struggles with his mental health. Unfortunately, he did suffer in silence and heartbreakingly, took his own life in January 2022. For this reason, Beth, Ellie and Bex are taking on the 100km Jurassic Coast Challenge in May in aid of MIND.
MIND is a charity that are dedicated to supporting individuals who struggle with their mental health and wellbeing. We will be walking the distance over 2 days in hope of raising some money for MIND and encouraging people to get talking when they need to!
Those of you that know us will know that Ellie and Bex have the slight advantage of being a PE teacher and avid exercisers. Beth on the other hand… the thought of exercise makes her tired unless she’s legging it around the ward at work. However, one thing we can all agree on is that the 48 hours of pain we are likely to endure will be nothing compared to the pain experienced by Chris and many others.
Thank you for reading our story. Any donations are hugely appreciated. You really don’t have to struggle in silence.
