Story

My Dad. Better than all the others.

So powerful, his thunderous voice lulled me into stormy dreams at night.

So fast, I had to take two steps for every one of his when he’d walk me to primary school.

So explosive, I would wind him up just to watch him detonate.

So passionate - he was the most inspiring, inappropriate and ridiculous dad all at once.

So full of life before the muscular dystrophy symptoms kicked in.

I’m lucky as he has a late-onset form, which my parents call Opium D (Ocular Pharyngeal Muscular Dystrophy – get it?).

It’s very rare, except in Quebec where we are from.

My dad’s father had it; his aunt and uncle had it. My siblings and I could have it.

It runs in the family. My brother and I are running for the MD family.

******** Version francaise *********
