Story
Clinically vulnerable children and families have had a very difficult pandemic. Many sadly still struggle to access the health and education services that they badly need. These services are now severely stretched and face unprecedented financial constraints.
I am raising money for our school PTA so they have more funds to support children and clinically vulnerable children in particular. One of the things that the PTA is unable to do due to lack of funds is to invest in air cleaning and ventilation.
Clinically vulnerable children need to stay well to be able to stay in school and access education. Clean air is a really important part of achieving that objective.
This subject is close to our own hearts as parents to a child with a respiratory condition that means he can get very poorly from viral infections generally and Covid-19 in particular. He is also very sensitive to airborne allergens.
We found many people are not aware of how important clean air is for all children.
- Air quality has a significant impact on cognition and concentration in the learning environment.
- Air pollution damages the development of young children's lungs
- Asthma and hay fever sufferers are ill more often with poor air quality
- Covid-19 is airborne and still has serious health consequences for the clinically vulnerable
- Flu and other airborne infections disrupt children's education
- When children are ill or bring infection home vulnerable families can lose precious income during a cost of living crisis.
- Teachers and school staff pick up infections too. They are sometimes clinically vulnerable themselves. Acute staffing constraints and difficulties finding and paying for supply teachers means children's education can be impacted.
High quality air delivered by good ventilation and air cleaning equipment can help mitigate all of the above.
To understand better why clean air is important take a look at the UNICEF UK campaign "Healthy Air for Every Child" at https://www.unicef.org.uk/publications/healthy-air-for-every-child/ and UNICEF guidance on Covid and Children https://www.unicef.org/parenting/health/long-COVID-children.
To raise this money I am looking for people to sponsor me to overcome my fear of heights and complete a High Ropes Course Challenge (pictures will be provided as evidence of completion!).
If I raise £1,000, then I am able to apply to my generous employer Barratt Developments Plc for match funding of £1,000.
Every donation no matter what size will help! Thank you in advance for your contribution to a cause that is so important to me!
