Thanks for visiting our page.
We've set a high fundraising target of £10,000. If we reach it, on day 6 - the day after we finish our 98 mile walk - we'll conquer 1345m Ben Nevis as well to say thank you! So share this and send us up there :)
Both our lives have been affected by Cancer and we both find walking and talking helps with mental recovery and healing. Here are our stories.
Emma : After I was diagnosed with breast cancer in May 2016, Ria and I decided to train to walk the West Highland Way as part a healing and recovery process, after a summer of doing no exercise due to being post-op sore. In October 2016 we went for our first walk together of around a mile, which was about all I could manage due to radiotherapy sleepiness and an injured foot. As the months progressed our walks got longer and more challenging and I began to feel fit once more. We decided to make the walk not only a challenge for us, but a challenge to raise money for Cancer Research. Research into Cancer is crucial and is one of the reasons I am here today - knowing the early signs, and getting targeted treatment have meant I am likely to still be here bugging everyone in ten years' time.
Ria: With my daughter being diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) in July 2009 a difficult journey lay ahead. As a parent you do not want any of the worry and fear put onto your child as they are physically fighting this horrible disease, so as you can imagine there are a lot of feelings and emotions that were suppressed during this time. Walking and talking our way through all these training walks I have found to help as a sort of meditation process, so now that she's has made it to her 5th year of being in remission what better way to mark the occasion than embarking on this journey. If a few pounds £££ are raised to help fund more research to help everyone out there, even better.
