What have I done? Why did I sign up for a 100k run?

Thames Path Challenge 2021 · 11 September 2021 to 12 September 2021 ·
I used to be a pretty active person in my high school days, playing Rugby, Football, swimming, track and field and running cross country. The furthest distance I ever ran was a half marathon in High School at 17 where I ran a 1:44, but since then I haven't run more than 5km until 2022. In March of 2022 I decided I should probably start getting fit again and I decided to pick up running and cycling. As I was slowly increasing my running mileage, I started to think about ways in which I could really challenge myself, and I found out about a relatively flat 100km ultramarathon that was taking place in September 2022. I looked up a training plan and decided that actually I could probably do a decent job of running the ultra if I just ramped up my mileage.
My training plan will have me running at most 60km at the beginning of August, but for the rest I'll just be training with runs between 25-55km which is a big jump from where I used to be. My first run on the 2nd of March was 9.5km, with a weekly distance of 22.5km, and I've been ramping up ever since. As of writing this (June 15th) I've peaked at a weekly distance of 86km and a longest ever run of 35km, but soon that will hopefully feel like a short run.
A benefit of running the 100km, besides being able to call myself an ultramarathoner, is that I get to raise money for a cause that deeply affects most (if not all) of us! I'll be running to raise money for Cancer Research UK, and all the great work that they're doing to try to find a cure for various types of cancer. Hopefully that alone is a worthy enough cause for you to donate, but if not just know you're helping encourage me to suffer through a 100km run in September! Thanks for taking the time to read this and showing some interest in my story, I greatly appreciate it whether you donate or not!
