Story

I am taking part in the Royal Parks Half Marathon (13.1 miles) and raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Many of you may know I my grandad sadly lost his very sudden battle with cancer last year. The rapid decline of his health to this cruel illness was one of the most distressing things I have witnessed. The news left a hole in many peoples hearts and we are still dealing with this grief the best way we know how. For me, I want to give back, make a positive contribution and push myself out of my comfort zone. I have never ran more than a few miles and would never of had the courage to sign up for a half-marathon without this cause that means so much to me.

Cancer is not going anywhere. Macmillan is needed now more than ever. There’s around 3 million people living with cancer in the UK today, and more than 360,000 are diagnosed every year. Right now, millions of people living with cancer are counting charities like Macmillan for help with paying bills, going through treatment, or with how they're feeling.

I thank you in advance for reading my story and all donations however big or small are greatly appreciated and will hopefully help towards others in getting the support they need.

Macmillan cancer support not only provides vital services to those living with cancer and their families. They tirelessly research and campaign for better cancer care but without your support Macmillan cannot help everyone who needs them.

It can be difficult to know whether a symptom is important or not. You may worry that you are wasting your GP's time or feel anxious talking about it. But if you notice a change in how you feel or how your body works, it is safer to get it checked. A change does not usually mean you have cancer, but it could be something that needs treatment. It is a good idea to get it checked by your GP.

If it is cancer, the earlier it is found, the more likely it is to be cured. If it is nothing serious, your GP can reassure you. If you need support or just want someone to talk to, call Macmillan free on 0808 808 00 00.

Thanks again for supporting me, your donations and kindness will really help motivate me over the next few months and keep me on track to achieving my goal and making a difference.

In loving memory of David Earl
