I am cycling over 300 miles to Paris to raise money and awareness for The Mustard Tree Centre.
The Mustard Tree Centre is a cancer support centre offering advice and support to absolutely anyone affected by cancer. The Centre is a part of Plymouth Hospital where the staff provided incredible and invaluable care and support to our Mum during her illness last year.
The Centre is a real refuge for those suffering with cancer as well as their families and carers. All charitable donations go directly to The Mustard Tree Centre and are used to buy equipment as well as fund additional therapies and counsellors.
Watching our Mum go through her aggressive chemotherapy treatment was one of the hardest and most heart-breaking things we had to do as a family. The cancer resulted in loss of appetite with her struggling to eat and enjoy food which inevitably lead to dramatic weight loss. This made it even more difficult to undergo treatment and remain optimistic.
In 2019 The Mustard Tree Centre is hoping to raise enough money to employ a Dietician. This area is so key to people with cancer as appetites change with treatment. Having someone available to discuss menu options, give dietary advice and answer those individual questions about food and nutrition will be such an amazing addition to what The Mustard Tree can offer and will make a huge difference to so many people.
Mum sadly died aged 55 and we miss her every single day. Whilst there was not anything I could do to make her get better, I can do a little something to help other people who are battling the awful disease and hopefully help provide them with some extra support when they need it the most.
I am not a great cyclist but Mum would always love to hear about my (mis) adventures on my bike so I hope to manage the 4 days of cycling without falling off.
Thank you :) x
