2020 BBS Walkathon · 17 October 2020 to 18 October 2020 ·

Bardet-Biedl syndrome (BBS) is a rare genetic disease affecting every organ system in the body. BBS begins to affect the health of a child before birth and continues to affect daily activities throughout life.

Story

Here are some things about me and why I am walking:

I’m an independent woman who was diagnosed with BBS as a child in the early 1990s. I have 3 nieces and a nephew that I adore!! Everyday tasks are more complicated with BBS, but I always strive to be an inspiration for them.

I graduated from Warren Wilson College with a Bachelors in Art, and last year I graduated from the WNC School of Massage and am currently studying for my licensure.

In my spare time I love to hike the great outdoors with Luna, my Golden Retriever service dog.

I also enjoy reading, playing guitar, and spending time with family and loved ones.

Over the last several years my vision has diminished, and I’m currently learning to read and write braille.

I invite you to join me in this walk to help change the lives of others like myself who are fighting BBS.
