Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I have been fund raising for JDRF for a few years. My first big effort was in 2016 when I ran the London marathon. I said at the time I would never run another marathon - but never say never! Then I ran a half marathon every month in 2019, again raising a couple of thousand pounds for JDRF.
JDRF is a charity very close to my heart. It focuses solely on Type1 diabetes, an autoimmune disease that has affected several members of my family. It often manifests in childhood, and can be very difficult not only for the child but also for all the family. Often it comes out of the blue and families have no experience of how to manage it. JDRF is there for those newly diagnosed to support all the family.
JDRF funds research into better ways of managing Type1, such as the ‘artificial pancreas’ which means that glucose control is better and easier to achieve.
JDRF also funds research into a cure for Type1. This is the ultimate goal, and even a few years ago when I started my fundraising I couldn’t really believe that I might see this in my lifetime. But now I am hopeful, optimistic that sometime in the not too distant future there will be a cure.
Please do take the time to visit the JDRF website to learn more about how your donations will help scientists find a cure for Type1.
