Come Fly With Gi Trek · 1 May 2021 to 7 May 2021 ·

We're the UK’s only youth-focused breast cancer awareness charity, on a mission to get every young person checking their chest. We want all young people to know the signs and see their GP if they notice any changes. We do this because early detection saves lives.

Story

CoppaFeel! are the first UK breast cancer charity to create awareness amongst young people, with the aim to install a new healthy habit that could one day save a life. They are on a mission to stamp out late detection of breast cancer and ensure the nation is checking their boobs regularly. They want to educate people on the signs and symptoms of breast cancer, encourage them to get to know what is normal for them and empower young people to have the confidence to see a doctor if they notice anything that isn't right for them.

I've created this page because I want to make a difference. I'm inspired by the work of CoppaFeel! and wanted to support them by raising money as part of my participation in Come Fly with Gi Cornwall  Trek in aid of CoppaFeel!. Please help me help them by giving whatever you can using the 'Give Now' button. The more people that know about CoppaFeel!, the greater their impact, so please also spread the word by sharing my page with your friends and family. Thank you in advance for your generosity, it means a lot!

So .... I'm walking 100km along the coast in Cornwall- this will be a massive challenge for me physically and mentally. After breaking my ankle in three places in 2019.  CoppaFeel is a charity which raises awareness amongst young people, with the aim of instilling the knowledge and tools they need to get to know their bodies, so that everyone stands the best chance of surviving breast cancer.
We all know that early detection is key in surviving any cancer.
I was diagnosed with cancer age 34 , five weeks after having my second child Sophia. Navigating a newborn baby and being told I had cancer brought me to my knees. After intense chemo, radiotherapy, mastectomy, my ovaries and fallopian tubes removed and a reconstruction surgery lasting 10 hours with the hardest recovery I have ever experienced, I am now on tablets for the forseeable future, which has caused me to have osteoporosis in my neck and lower back, thinning hair and many other nasty side effects.
Over the last few years I have supported many charities - I have raised money for cold caps for patients to help with the hair loss. I have raised money for the lynda Jackson centre in Northwood which provides support and holistic treatments for patients undergoing treatment - so this leads me to my final chapter, my full circle - to help fund a charity that educates young people on the importance of checking themselves on a regular basis.
The trauma of cancer has really stuck with me . The anxiety never fully leaves you and the fear is always there....
I have spent the last few years rebuilding my life after cancer. the fear of it returning has been debilitating for me and only in the last year after having counselling and really working on how to manage my anxiety, do I now feel I can undertake such a challenge.
So I am so privileged and excited to be chosen for this challenge, 2 years ago my anxiety wouldn't have allowed me to do this. I had lost all self belief and confidence - the cancer stripped me of this.
But now I have the confidence to believe in a life after cancer, a life with my husband and children, one where I am not always looking over my shoulder waiting for a sign that the cancer is back. I know that this still is a possibility - but I have most of the time made my peace with this.
Thanks for reading and supporting me.
