VSO ICS** · 31 January 2020 to 31 December 2020 ·
When I was working towards my Duke of Edinburgh Gold It gave an opportunity to meet people from many different backgrounds and communities and I have seen first hand how volunteering helps both the volunteer and the recipient and the wider community. Whilst volunteering I have heard about the good work of International Citizen Service and Voluntary Service Overseas, and I realised I could make a difference. I have been lucky enough through a selection process to be selected to go to Mwanza, Tanzania
The ICS project I will be involved with supports local small and medium-sized enterprises to enhance their skills in business through various pieces of training like branding, designing and marketing to specifically ensure that more women and men benefit from these growth markets. There is a focus is on helping women entrepreneurs with this project.
When working on my ICS placement I will be excited to use the skills I have developed through Scouting and my Gold Duke of Edinburgh. Such as team working, problem-solving and listening skills. I will use this experience as the international requirement of my Queen's Scout Award, and with your help, I hope to make a real difference to the Mwanza community in Tanzania
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story.
