Campaign by Sands (RCN 299679 (England & Wales), SC042789 (Scotland))
Christmas can be unbearably difficult for anyone affected by the death of a baby. Please help us to make sure that all our bereavement support services are available to anyone one who needs them.

Story

I'm not a writer so I'm going to explain why we support SANDS the best I can ... Emily was our much loved daughter due on 23/12/10.

It was a low risk pregnancy with no complications, all the scans / appointments were fine, and we were excited.

Emily was our first child and very much wanted and loved by us and our families and she still is.

My waters broke so we went to the hospital as advised, but the midwife couldn't find a heart beat, we watched the faces of the midwifes and knew she (well baby we didn't know the sex) had gone and to cut a long, very very emotional, very sad story short, we were seen by a consultant and it was confirmed we had lost our baby, our baby had died.

After enduring all the pains of an induced labour our daughter EMILY was born sleeping the following day.

12/12/10 RIP Emily McCabe-Williams 6lb 3oz at 38 weeks 5 days.

We were heartbroken, shocked, numb! (There are no words to describe) and tbh I can't ....

But we loved her,  we love her!

We received fantastic care at Good Hope Hospital from ALL the staff (and still do when needed) and we were provided with a SANDS memory box.

And it's thanks to SANDS (and the midwifes at Good Hope) we have memories of our beautiful daughter, we have her hand/foot prints, photos, a lock of her hair, a teddy bear...exactly the same one was put in to her coffin as the memory box provided two! Comforting poems and just general information you never never never expect to want to know!

Funeral arrangements were made for the 23/12/10, it seemed comforting in a way that we were laying her to rest the day she was due to be born...

Our local church St Peters in Little Aston... especially the wonderful Rev. Phil Moon who came to the hospital and blessed Emily before we had to leave her and helped us with arranging our final goodbye and we did sadly ... On the 23/12/10 we laid Emily to rest, our family, friends, midwifes were all there to support us and say I love you and say goodbye.

Through no fault of anyone's (We never had or received an explanation why Emily died, there was no reason) the Christmas period of December 2010 Emilys death effected many people and their celebrations.

SANDS was a huge support for myself, my husband, and all of our families and friends (who didn't know what to do, say, act for the best) so they researched online and the SANDS website advised them ...

And still to this day nearly 6 years later, our love is still the same for Emily, if not, more! We still need support and guidance as its a journey we never expected to take, and SANDS is there to support us ALL on this emotional life long journey.

So please if you can, please donate £1 this Christmas (instead of a card) and help support other families who are sadly going to experience the same story as me and my family ... This Christmas / holiday period ...

SANDS is a much needed charity to help families through their loss, but also lead the way in research to help reduce stillbirths and are continuing to raise awareness of this TABOO subject

PLEASE DONATE what you can, as you all know it's very much and ALWAYS appreciated

With love, Katie xx❤️Xx
