The Big Jump · 6 October 2018 ·
Thank you for visiting my page. In a moment of madness I have signed up to brave the Big Jump (skydiving from 10,000ft) on the 6th October alongside my uncle Phil, in order to raise both money and awareness for Beat. Although a terrifying prospect, this fear is nothing compared to the terror that people with eating disorders face every day, and the worry of their friends and family.
Eating disorders affect far too many people - an estimated 1.25 million people suffer from an eating disorder in the UK alone, and each of these people will have loved ones desperate to help them. On average, each person with an eating disorder faces a delay of about 3 and a half years between realising they have an eating disorder and receiving help for it - this is too long and earlier intervention is needed.
Beat exist to end the pain and suffering of eating disorders, through ways such as their helpline which is open 365 days a year, an informative website, campaigning for adult waiting times and training for schools to help spot the early signs of the illness. With it costing about £20 to support each person who reaches out to the helpline, the money you donate will really make such a difference so thank you!
Through both volunteering and working for Beat, I see each day the massive difference that Beat make to so many people's lives - the helpline alone aims to support over 40,000 people this year. This is why I'm following through with my own recovery motto of 'do one thing each day that scares you' and will be jumping out the plane whilst sticking two fingers up to eating disorders!
Thank you for supporting Beat too. Love, Emily x
