Story
Hello!
On the 24th March I'm going to be running (or at least attempting to) the London Landmarks half marathon. I'm not a runner, neither do I enjoy it, but I'm running for St George's Hospital charity and specifically for the Neurosurgery unit.
This is a really important charity to my family and I as in October 2018 my dad was rushed in to the ward and underwent major surgery on his back. The work this team does for brain and spinal cord injuries is incredible, not just from the very personal situation my family were in but from just meeting other people around the ward when we were there and the staff on the department are honestly incredible. I could never ever do what they do being faced with people with life changing injuries every single day.
I can’t ever begin to thank the team behind my Dad’s care, operation and rehabilitation enough. Nor can I ever begin to thank the nurses and consultants for the support they showed my family throughout waiting for his op and being able to get him home, whether it was a cheerful conversation or a hug when I was on the verge of all of the tears and frankly terrified about what was going on. I would love to be able to give back to them and show them even a fraction of what their care meant to my family, and if you could donate to the cause of me running (and don’t worry I’ll supply many a tomato faces photo in reward) it would mean the absolute world!
Thank you,
Em xxx
