Family Friends offer long-term practical and emotional support for families in need in Kensington and Chelsea  through 'befriending' and 'mentoring' services.   They recruit, train and match volunteers to referred families and volunteers spend two hours a week with the family focusing either on a parent, adolescent or child.   Although Kensington and Chelsea is perceived as an affulent Borough the reality is very different - Golborne and St. Charles wards rank in the top 10% of UK deprivation while Colville, Avondal and Stanley are in the top 20%.    The families that Family Friends support experience a variety of problems including lone parenthood, poverty, unsatisfactory housing, physical disabilty, refugee status, ex-domestic voilence or substance mis-use, depression, social isolation and school exclusion.    If you want some more information their website address is www.familyfriend.org.uk.  If you feel able to I would be grateful for any sponsorship you feel able to give.
