Sepsis accounts for 48,000 deaths annually in the UK, that’s more than breast, bowel and prostate cancer put together. Sepsis is what happens when our immune system overreacts to an infection. Symptoms initially present as flu like but can rapidly deteriorate into a life threatening condition.

Story

Sepsis is one of the biggest challenges within the NHS.

I had a great time on my year abroad in Hong Kong but unfortunately, I suffered from Cellulitis and Sepsis.  I am only alive today because of the amazing health care I received in Hong Kong.  I am lucky as Sepsis kills more people than breast, bowel and prostate cancer together.

Sepsis is the worst pain I have ever felt in my life and the long term effects of Sepsis are rarely talked about. It has taken me the best part of two years to get my health back to normal.

Long term effects of Sepsis include:

  • Insomnia
  • Disabling muscle and joint pains
  • Fatigue
  • Poor concentration
  • Decreased mental functioning

The Sepsis Trust helps to educate the general public on the illness.  I sometimes still suffer with muscle and joint pains in my right leg, the leg damaged by Sepsis. Photo above was taken during my hospital stay in Hong Kong

Please sponsor me and I'll be forever grateful.

Thank you.
