Alfies “good choices” bike ride for Marwell Zoo.

After talking with Alfie about the mindless acts of vandalism and violence the 3 men carried out against our beloved Marwell Zoo, Alfie said he’d “like to raise some money to help the zoo keepers repair the damage and buy the animals a treat to make them happy.” He was very sad that these men made such “bad choices”. 

We had a think about what he could do that was different to other fundraising projects being carried out. Alfie and I counted up the different animal species at the zoo and found there are 71 different species.

5 year old Alfie will carry out a 71km bike ride to help raise vital funds to help the charity at an already critical time due to lack of visitors during the pandemic. Alfie has missed using our annual passes to visit the zoo as often as usual over the last year and often when we ask him what he’d like to do that day says “go to the zoo!”

Alfie’s set a target of £250.00. That will buy enough hay to feed the animals for 2 days and buy the giraffes a nice treat. Due to the amazing generosity of our wonderful family and friends we’ve increased our target to £500.00. Alfie said it should be £1million! Think that’s a little optimistic bless him. He aims to complete the 71km by Easter Sunday which equates to 1.6km a day.
