Story
Back in May, during a work meeting, I put my hand up to run a half marathon to raise money for the foundation which we support as a company. At the time I didn't realise the distance I was agreeing to run, thinking that a half marathon can't be much further than running around Clapham Common! How wrong I was, at least putting myself through the training (and the run on the day!) will be worth it if I can raise a good amount of money for the foundation which will be passed on to my chosen charity.
The Kensington & Chelsea Foundation link local residents and businesses to around 400 charities in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. The charity I have asked to be linked to is Solidarity Sports, a small inner- london charity, who help to provide access to sports and health initiatives for children from disadvantaged backgrounds. These children very often have nowhere to play and few opportunities to learn outside of school, giving them a chance to play sport together because it is fun and a great way to learn valuable life skills. The children are principally aged between 7 and 11 years old and a number are on the Child Protection Register. The charity organises regular after school activities as well as an inspirational holiday programmes e.g. a tennis camp where they take over Campden Hill Tennis Club. Solidarity Sports believe that sport is a right, not a privilege.
