We provide essential care and support to people with life threatening illnesses

Story

Our family was left devastated in October 2013 when my mum, only 58 years old at the time, was diagnosed with advanced bile duct cancer (cholangiocarcinoma). This type of cancer was and still is extremely rare, only approximately 4% of people diagnosed with it survive the first year. Unfortunately my mum’s cancer had spread to many of her surrounding vital organs. She was told she only had approximately 3 to 6 months to live.

I can’t explain just how heartbroken my mums diagnosis left us. Especially as we had all only really just began to cope with the grief of losing our dad, my mums childhood sweetheart in 2005.

In the June of 2005 my dad was diagnosed with Mesothelioma (Asbestos) Lung Cancer, we had to watch him suffer day after day in so much pain. After being given the same prognosis of 3 to 6 months to live. It was just 4 months later on the 11th October 2005 that our dad sadly passed away.

So then to be told my mum, my best friend, my world was going to be taken from us as well was too unimaginable and too unbearable to consider it. She was fighting it every step of the way!!!

I can never bring our Mum or dad back but by doing a 400ft Bungee Jump on 29th July 2018 in Wales, I am hoping to raise as much money as possible for The Sara Lee Trust, an amazing charity that often gets overlooked but the work they do really does make a real difference to so many people and their families.

Every single day for an incredible 3 and a half years our Mum carried on fighting with everything she had, not once did she say 'why me?'. She would tell me how lucky she was instead to still be here. Mum lived life to the full, in spite of the cancer within.

Cancer doesn't just stop when somebody dies. It lives on in the hearts of the family and friends and for me, there is a huge Mum shaped hole that I have to cope with every day.

It really would mean so much if you could please give even just a small donation to help support the vital work The Sara Lee Trust continue to do.

The Sara Lee Trust offered so much help and support to my mum, especially in the last stages of her life. All the counselling services, therapy treatments and especially their santantary days that were made available to her kept her stronger for so much longer which enabled us to create so many more precious memories and for that I will always be grateful.

These are memories I will treasure forever!!
