In Jan this year our Mum, Vi, got diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's. It was a very scary time for Mum and each of us, we didn't know much about this disease other than what we've seen on TV. Dad reached out to the Alzheimer's Society to help educate us to be able to better support Mum. We joined an Alzheimer's support class that offered 4 sessions talking about different stages of the disease at each class, we got to attend one class before lockdown happened. There were people from all over NI at the class, visibly heartbroken by the impact this disease was having on a family member of theirs. The class offered an opportunity not only to understand the disease but to support and comfort one another and gave us hope.  We learnt of the medication available, of groups Mum can join, a support group for Dad (Mum's carer) and to understand the disease and how to make small practical changes to help Mum in day to day life. All of these things we wouldn't of known about without the Alzheimer's society and the wonderful team of people they have working with them. 

We've chosen to have  a fun filled day with Mum, Dad, grandchildren, Mum's sisters, nieces , nephews and great friends walking together from Helensbay to Bangor to show Mum support and to raise money for a cause that is now very close to our hearts. We are very grateful for any donation you are able to make.
