As many of you who know me will know, my Nan was my best friend. She was one of the most important people in the world to me. 

Joyce was one of the most loving, caring and funniest people you could meet. She was so brave - she faced so much in her life and still got up every single day to carry on facing it. 

When she was diagnosed with vascular dementia in 2017 it didn’t come as a huge shock to us - we’d known it was coming, even she knew it was coming. And we had to watch as it took her away from us slowly. It took away so many of the things we loved about her. When we physically lost her in 2020 it was hard as we already felt like we had lost her - because we did to dementia.

I now fight every day to help people through a dementia diagnosis through the Barclays Dementia Focus group that I run, but I want to do more to help fight dementia taking away the people we love. So…I’m going on a walk.
