At Asthma + Lung UK, our vision is for a world where everyone has healthy lungs. From research and campaigning to advice and support, as the UK’s lung charity we’re on a mission to change the way that lung health is perceived. Because breath is life - and that’s worth fighting for.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. I am Emma, Lola’s mum.

Lola is 11 years old and suffers with asthma. Over the years we have faced a number of escalations of her condition but this year we're determined to take a new approach.

A couple of weeks ago Lola was unwell for several days; it’s always hard to see her suffer, but this time after a sleepless night she said,

“I wish I could stop it mummy. I want to help stop it!”

We sat down to talk about what she could do and how she feels, and she came up with idea of walking 1,000 miles. Of course, this is an ongoing challenge for a great cause, but it is also about inspiring and educating other children to get outside and to live a healthy lifestyle.

We usually hibernate once the winter comes, but this year it’s our intention to get outside every day (unless there are truly horrible conditions). Lola has used her pocket money to buy a pedometer and we have started tracking our steps and miles. So far we’ve managed 35 miles! These are miles walked specifically for the challenge, not inclusive of normal daily activity.

We hope you will join us and share our journey. Asthma is a condition that affects many families and the impact it has is widely unknown.

Please visit our website https://livinglavidalola.com to follow our blog. We have a weekly update that you can sign up for which also has little bits of inspiration for families around the UK.
