Story

Hello everyone and welcome to my page!

My name is Emma, I am a youth development worker in North Liverpool and I will be running the New York Marathon 2nd of November 2014.  I first began running at 2 years ago with a group of friends, since then we have completed 4 half marathons and two Santa dashes!! The New York Marathon is going to be different for me for a couple of reasons; 1, this will be my first Marathon and 2, I will be going to all by myself!

This November I will be turning 30! I really can’t believe it, although they do say that 30 is the new 21, so that’s fine with me! To mark the occasion I wanted to achieve something that is likely yo be ‘Once in a Lifetime’ and make a positive contribution to things that I really care about… for me my passion is working with young people and my friends and family.

For the past 6 months I have been keeping to a tight training schedule with has allowed me to learn more than I ever could imagine, about myself.  I am not going to lie; it’s been one of the most challenging yet rewarding things I’ve ever done.  I am hoping all my hard work pays off, by people donating money to my chosen charities.

Why Positive Futures? For the past 7 years I worked at Positive Futures; it is a local youth charity working in the four wards of , Anfield, County, Kirkdale and Everton. I began as a volunteer then became sessional worker, and three years ago I gained my post as full time youth development worker. During this time I have worked with the most amazing young people who have inspired me to work to the best of my ability to help them reach their full potential in any way I can.

“PF has a phenomenal track record for turning young lives around through a blended mix of personal development, education, training & mentoring via a range of one-to-one and group based activities. We believe “Everyone Deserves a Chance” so turns around the lives of the most ‘at risk’ young people by creating a long term relationship, employing a firm, fair, consistent approach.”

The money I raise will help run projects to continue with this ethos……………….With money raised Positive Futures can create and deliver bespoke personal development programs for young people in the local area.  The staff team enable these young people to take ownership of these projects; to create a sense of belonging and responsibility to have a positive effect on their lives.  The staff team at Positive Futures believes all young people have something to offer, it is just about making them realise it.  With any extra money raised these project can continue to make a difference.

My aim is to raise as much money for my chosen charities; it is also to encourage people to make the most of their lives no matter what hits them when growing up; and to appreciate the people that help you along the way…

I would like to say a big thank you to my family, friends, G, and all the staff and young people I have worked with along the way for everything they have done for me.

Now let’s get on with raising lots of money!!

Lots of Love

Em xx
