Story
On Sunday 10 September, I'll be taking on the iconic Great North Run, 13.1 miles from Newcastle to South Shields to raise vital funds for North East Autism Society!
I have never attempted a half marathon before and will be training to complete hopefully in under 2 hours , this is a huge challenge for me . . . but nothing compared to the challenges our Autistic children will face throughout their lifetime !
Our Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Journey began in 2018 when our eldest child Harry was diagnosed . Its one hell of a rollercoaster ride from assessment , diagnosis , care and education provision. Knowing very little about ASD it suddenly became a very big part of our lives and navigating the entire process would not of been possible without our local peer support group!
North East Autism Society has led the way in providing autism-specific care and education for children and young people across the North East of England. NEAS passionately believes that autistic children and young adults have significant skills and strengths, which can be developed throughout their lifetime. Funds raised by me will go directly to the family development team who help support the family groups, hubs and peer support. Without these services families are left often unsupported and confused about the rights and entitlements that follow a diagnosis , being able to signpost a person to access care or information that will assist their autistic loved one is invaluable .
Thank you for your support, please donate whatever you can to help our ASD families right across our north east region!
