Every two hours someone in the UK is paralysed by a spinal cord injury. It can happen to anyone at any time and no one is prepared for how it will change their life. Aspire is a national charity that provides practical help, supporting spinal cord injured people from injury to independence.

Story

I am planning to swim the English Channel in the summer
of 2021, I’m not completely sure why I decided to do this, but here we are. I’ve been accepted to swim for Aspire in a team of six to cross the English Channel, training has started and now I need your help to raise money for a wonderful charity.

12 years ago I underwent back surgery and this changed my
life. My recovery was very long and hard both mentally and physically, the one thing that saved me was swimming. I will never forget the first time I got into the pool and was able to walk a few meters, to swimming a width then a length to finally being able to swim normally.

It just seemed to make sense to do this challenge with Aspire, the work they do for people with spinal injuries is awe inspiring. I couldn’t be prouder to have the opportunity to raise money for this charity, please take a look at some of the stories and all the amazing work they do https://www.aspire.org.uk/Pages/Category/who-we-are

So, the plan is to train hard, raise lots of money and then
at some point in July depending on tides we will swim as a relay from England to France. Through the darkness, past shipping lanes, around jellyfish and finally with wrinkled fingers and toes, salty hair and bloody freezing we will arrive in France, I imagine somewhat elated and exhausted.

Please dig deep and sponsor me, you will be changing someone’s
life!
