Story

I am taking part in the Royal Parks Half Marathon on Sunday 9th October 2022 and I would dearly love to not only raise awareness for the amazing charity, FAST UK (Foundation for Angelman Syndrome Therapeutics) I’m running in aid of, but also to raise as much money as I possibly can to support them.

The charity was set up by my close friends, Tom and Tam Keogh, whose daughter, Amelia, was diagnosed with Angelman’s Syndrome (AS) at 15 months old. It is a rare genetic condition which is incurable and affects 1 in 15,000. The symptoms are developmental delay, motor skills impairment, loss of functional speech and debilitating seizures. Individuals with AS require continuous care and are unable to live independently. Amelia is now 8 years old and the most determined and brave little girl who has overcome some huge milestones in her life.

Scientists believe that Angelman Syndrome has the greatest potential for being cured when compared to other neurogenetic disorders, and FAST UK has a plan well underway to achieve just that. They have committed to fund the Natural History Study with Oxford University for a further 3 years which in turn will facilitate clinical trials in the UK. This is an extremely worthwhile cause and the money that you donate towards my half marathon will help towards that - so please be as generous as possible!

Thanks so much for the support,

Emma x
