At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I know all to well the effects Alzheimer's can have on an individual and their family.  My Granda suffer from Dementia for many a year, I just knew him as my Granda and never knew he was ill.

It deteriated as this awful disease does, to the extent where he couldn't remember his own son (my dad) and was on numerous machines at the end as his mind didn't know how to keep his organs functioning. The diease eventually got the better of him as his organs failed and he died of starvation (his mind didn't tell his body to eat or know how to).

It is an awful memory, thankfully we got to say our goodbye's but I chose to remember him in his house, counting objects over and over again and asking the same questions every 20 mins. This to me was just my Granda, he may have been ill but I was never aware and I am thankful for that.
