As most of you know, at 34 weeks pregnant my waters broke unexpectedly, 2 days later and 6 weeks early, Daniel and I welcomed our amazing son George into the world.

George was whisked away to the special care unit at Barnsley General Hospital and for the next 11 days we watched while the nursing team helped our little boy prepare to come home. We were very lucky to bring him home 4 weeks earlier than we expected and he continues to thrive, but not everyone's journey is quite so smooth and some families are there for months. The Special Care Baby Unit at Barnsley hospital is a small unit with a dedicated team of staff who work tirelessly day after day ensuring these tiny babies who arrive early receive the best possible care. Not only do they support the babies but their families too. Daniel and I spent 14 hours a day at the unit tired and worried but nothing was ever too much trouble for them and no question was ever too ridiculous. Everything they do, they do it with a smile on their face. The Tiny Hearts Appeal at Barnsley Hospital Charity has been raising money to build a new neonatal unit at the cost of £1 million which they have been waiting for for at least 11 years, no one deserves this unit more.

On the 1st of October I will be running (walking or cartwheeling)  the
pontefract half marathon, 1 mile for every day we spent at the hospital, in order to raise some money. Everyone has a charity close to their heart and this is ours.
