Story
On July 12th 2019 I was diagnosed at 34yrs old with grade 3, type 3 primary ductal breast cancer. Thankfully my cancer had not spread, however it was so aggressive that surgery, 6 rounds of chemotherapy and 5weeks of radiotherapy were needed.
Before breast cancer I'd been running again for around 18months. I completed the Great North Run half marathon a month post surgery and was sure that further treatment would mean an end to running...thankfully my oncologist and team at Weston Park Hospital encouraged me to keep going. I ran through treatment and as soon as chemotherapy finished I began my training plan for my first 50K Ultra Marathon.
This October 6th I go back to road running to take part in my first road marathon along the bank of Loch Ness. I do it in memory of the runner I was, in acknowledgment of the runner I've become, and for the hospital that helped ensure I could become that runner.
