Tough Mudder South West 2023 · 12 August 2023 ·
A few weeks after our wedding last year Alex was diagnosed with testicular cancer. The story was the one we all hear but hope will never happen to us…boy meets girl, boy falls in love and marries girl, boy checks balls in the shower, boy asks girl to check balls (that old trick!), boy goes to GP, GP reassures boy ‘it’s unlikely but lets just check to be safe’, boy gets diagnosed with cancer, boy and girl get through to the end with one less ball but a whole lot of love from a whole lot of people! We know how lucky we are to have a happy ending to the story but as Alex has been through it, I wanted to raise money to help support others going through it too, and raise awareness…PLUS go through something ‘tough’ just as Alex has done.
Hence tough mudder. As I’m sure you all know exercise isn’t my natural habitat. Running is reserved purely for chasing the dogs when they run under a fence! Weights are restricted to lifting a bottle of wine out of the fridge, and getting muddy only when I fall over on a walk (which seems to happen remarkably often!) plunging into icey water is something I did at a spa once which was followed by a snuggly robe and a glass of fizz! But there we go…if it’s going to be a challenge, and raise money…it needs to be good!!
As you also know I’m a social creature…so I used emotional blackmail and the element of surprise to trick lovely Molly into joining me!!! So there we go…I know times are tough right now but even a little can make a huge difference ! If you can’t give anything then please share this message…
CHECK YOUR BALLS!!!
Testicular Cancer is the most common cancer to affect men between the ages of 15-49. However, if detected early, Testicular Cancer is one of the most curable cancers. Help us raise awareness of Testicular Cancer to breakdown the stigma associated with the disease and to encourage more young men to CHECK themselves on a monthly basis, and in doing so detect any problems early.
