SimplyHealth Great North Run 2018 · 9 September 2018 ·
Ashley & Liam Wilkie have made 2018 their year for fundraising.
Their daughter, Caitlin Wilkie, is a three year old girl from Kirriemuir, who was born with a very rare genetic disorder called Bardot-Biedl Sybdrome (BBS). Caitlin is currently 1 of 5 known suffers in Scotland and 1 of approximately 500 in the whole of the UK.
There are many symptoms of BBS, one being loss of eyesight. Caitlin's eyesight has already started to deteriorate in poor light and will continue to do so. There is no cure for BBS, however, Professor Phillip Beales from Great Ornand Street Hospital believes that he may only be a few years away from finding a cure to prevent the blindness element of the syndrome.
The BBS UK charity is the only registered charity in the UK for this syndrome and despite relying on volunteers and a small budget to run the charity they work wonders.
We would love to be able to add to Ashley and Liam's unbelievable fundraising efforts for their little girl, and the rest of the BBS suffers, and add to the vital funds to the research for hopefully preventing Caitlin losing her sight.
In bid to help the three of us have set ourselves the challenge of running the Great North Run half marathon at the start of September. We are incredibly honoured to be a small part of this massive fundraising effort and to be a part of Caitlin's Army. Thank you for giving a little, it means a lot.
