Story
In February 2013, my dear friend and Uni flatmate, Judith Marriott, learnt that her eldest son, Finlay, had an inoperable brain tumour. Over the next 12 months, he put up an incredible fight against his illness (Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma or DIPG). Tragically, on the 27th January 2014, he passed away.
In Finlay's memory, and as a tribute to his strength, bravery and determination, we would like to raise some money for the childhood brain cancer charity called "Abbie's Army and Finlay's Fighters" which helps other children with brain tumours and funds crucial research into DIPG tumours.
The Jacquier family is undertaking a weekend of triathlon-related challenges. On the 6th September, Emma will race in a half-ironman aquabike event, in NJ, USA, swimming 1.9km and cycling 90km. On the 7th September, Florian will race in the 70.3 Half-Ironman World Championship event in Mt. Tremblant, Quebec.
In parallel, on the same day, our daughter Madison (aged 4y) will swim 25m, cycle half a mile, and run around the entire baseball field. Taylor (aged 18 months) will swim one width (flotation device permitted), pedal the length of the driveway, and run to the kitchen for an ice-cream. (She is particuarly strong on the this aspect and has enjoyed the training sessions). Pink tri-suits will be worn by both competitors.
Ginny, our dog, will swim in a local lake (as far as I can throw the stick) and then sit on a child's tricycle and "cycle" as far as she will allow (or until the neighbour reports me for animal cruelty). This will be followed by a run, possibly involving squirrels, chipmunks and anything stinky she finds on the way for entertainment.
Dig as deep as you can and help us to raise awareness for DIPG.
In loving memory of Finlay.
