For the past 25 years, the JoLt Trust has taken countless disadvantaged, ill and disabled teenagers on journeys of a lifetime. During these month-long expeditions to remote places like Alaska and the Andes they learn confidence, trust, respect, self-worth and teamwork.

Story

On 8 November I will be part of a team of six women travelling to Vietnam to take part in a fundraising trek through the remote Tonkinese Alps, in north Vietnam near the Chinese border.

We will travel over 120 miles on foot walking up to eight hours a day, camping and staying with local families in their villages. Every penny we raise in sponsorship will go towards helping disabled and disadvantaged youngsters to go on a Journey of a Lifetime.

My dad was a leader on the first four JoLt expeditions (1984-1990) and when he died I became a trustee of this fantastic charity run entirely by volunteers. This will be my own personal journey of a lifetime, and will be the hardest physical challenge I have ever taken on. Three of our team (including me) have never done anything like this before.

Through my communications work with JoLt I have heard many amazing stories of young people whose lives have been changed for the better. Please help us to continue this great work. It costs around £4,000 to take each youngster on a journey, and we are already preparing for 2014. Thank you for visiting my page and for supporting JoLt.

Below are just a few comments from the youngsters on JoLt's most recent expedition across the Andes, in their own words:

"The experience will be one I will never forget.”

“It was amazing when I got to the top and for a minute my feet stopped hurting and it was all worth it. It did take me a bit longer than anyone else... but it was worth all the pain in my legs after.”

“JoLt has opened my eyes to all the things I could do if I work hard for it."

"My friends and family have already seen a change in me, and for that I can’t thank you enough, for helping me be the person I am today.”

"It was a long, hard walk for those who had to pull me up... it was hard for them and for me to try and stay in my wheelchair because of all the broken rocks and bumpy road. Once we got to the top the view was MIND BLOWING!!!”
