London Marathon 2022 · 2 October 2022 ·
I have been a cardiac nurse for 22 years and the last 6 years specialised in cardiac rehab and heart failure. I love my job and heart failure therapies are evolving making people live longer which is great and a huge part of my job. However life is shortened and part of my job is to support these patients and families as well. A lot of the time they are not just my patients they become friends and I become part of their and their families lives.
I got swept away with the emotion of people running the London marathon and thought hey I will enter this and the great north run. It is a running joke particularly for the London marathon that we celebrate our rejection letters at my local running club MRC. Well not me I got in for both and then covid hit , I then had to defer my entry as I had a foot operation. Sooo its this year or never and it is a once in a (and only ) lifetime. I may still have numbness in my foot but I can run and will do my best. I am no marathon runner more a 10 K kind of girl but knowing I am raising money for something close to my heart ( no pun intended ) will drive me on.
The core activities and strategy of the Pumping Marvellous Foundation are driven by the needs of heart failure patients, carers and family communities we serve. We get to the real crux of the problems, the problems that patients tell us they have. Our communities are large and we have superb interactions with them, we run the largest Facebook page dedicated to Heart Failure globally so we fully understand the needs and challenges they face. We develop and distribute patient information to the vast majority of NHS Heart Failure Teams in the UK.
