The RFU Injured Players Foundation supports & protects the rugby family. They provide support to any rugby player who sustains a catastrophic spinal cord injury or traumatic brain injury while playing the game, and they fund vital injury prevention research to keep everyone safer on the field.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am running the London Marathon for real this year as last year I ran the Virtual London Marathon.

I decided to fundraise for the IPF as I have been a big rugby fan since I was a child, so I have seen some very talented and gifted individuals have their careers ended due to a horror tackle which resulted in a devastating spinal injury. Whilst these career ending tackles are rare, they do happen and the work that the IPF do is so important, for the player, for their family and for research.

A friend of mine suffered a broken neck 10 years ago, playing in a match that he wasn't originally supposed to play. He was told that he would likely never walk again but with the help of the IPF, his family, rugby family and his unbelievable determination, he indeed can walk (with the help of a walking stick). His recovery has been absolutely awe inspiring but unfortunately not every rugby player that suffers a spinal injury is quite so fortunate.

The IPF work to help the injured player and their family in any way they can...helping with physio, financial assistance, helping with further education, providing someone to talk to for both the injured player and their family...the list goes on.

Please donate as much as you can as every penny donated helps provide support and information to rugby players in England who sustain a catastrophic spinal cord injury or traumatic brain injury playing the game, and help prevent future injuries through vital research. Check out the RFU IPF website for stories from some of the injured players they have helped. www.rfuipf.org.uk
