Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.

I am trying to raise money for Alopecia. Alopecia was not a subject that I knew much about until my daughter developed it 3 years ago aged just 4 years old at the time. Alopecia is defined as a hair loss disease that affects men, women and children. The onset of hair loss is often sudden, random and frequently recurrent. While the disease itself is not damaging to the person's health, coping with hair loss can prove challenging. The exact cause of alopecia areata is presently not known, although it is generally agreed that it is a disease of the autoimmune system. In addition there is believed to be a genetic component in some cases and some studies have shown a link with stress. In alopecia, the affected hair follicles are mistakenly attacked by a person's own immune system (white blood cells), possibly due to chemicals called cytokines, resulting in the arrest of the anagen (hair growth) stage and a move to the telogen (resting) phase where the hairs are then abruptly shed.

My sister and I intend this summer to cycle from Aldershot to portsmouth, catch a ferry and then cycle around the Isle of Wight and then cycle back home to Aldershot. We aim to cycle about 50 miles a day and complete the ride in 4 days.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Alopecia will receive your money faster and, if you are a tax payer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

So please sponsor us!!

Many thanks for your support.
