Emma's marathon attempt

Virgin London Marathon 2010 · 25 April 2010 ·
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As some of you may know, I have always wanted to run the London Marathon just once in my life - despite not being a natural runner. After completing a gruelling half marathon back in September I quickly changed my mind about ever doing a full marathon only to find out a couple of weeks later that I had been given a place through the ballot for 2010's race! I will only regret it if I turn the place down so I am doing it... argghh!!! I apologise now to all of you who I will be boring with my stories about training runs and aching muscles.
I am running for Chestnut Tree House Children’s Hospice; a really worthwhile charity that has provided great support and help to some good friends of mine. Chestnut Tree House is the only children's hospice in Sussex providing a 'home from home' environment for children and young adults from 0-19 years old with progressive life-limiting and life-threatening illnesses. My friend Rebecca sadly died aged only 5 and Chestnut Tree House helped and cared for her and her family in the short time that she was with us. The hospice continues to provide support to Rebecca’s younger sister, Rachel, who also suffers from the same degenerative illness. Knowing that I will be raising much needed funds that will help Rachel, her family and others in similar situations will encourage me round the 26.2 miles of London’s roads so please sponsor me!
The hospice costs approximately £2 million a year to run. Families are not charged for their care and the hospice relies almost entirely on the generosity, help and support of people like you.
£35 will enable a child to experience a magical time in the multi sensory room with a specially trained member of staff.
£157 allows a member of the Community Care Support Team to care for a life-limited child in the child’s home.
