Story

LOROS is a charity whose aim is to enhance the quality of life of adult patients with cancer, progressive neurological conditions and end-stage organ failure for whom curative treatment is no longer possible. Patients are treated at the Hospice and in the community based upon clinical need, regardless of background and the ability to pay.

Where do I start ... The most important thing in life is family, spend as much time as you can while we're lucky enough to have them on earth.  One day god will want them back.  Hug them a little tighter and tell them again you love them!

LOROS has been a part of our family life for over 20 years, our Mum dedicated 20 years of her working career here.  It always felt like a special place when I visited mum at work and heard all the wonderful stories.

2019 was a special year for our parents, mum and dad both celebrated there 65th birthdays and mum was due to retire from LOROS in November.  We as a family decided to celebrate all of this with a family holiday to Ibiza in June and what a special holiday it was (somethings are just meant to be!) The top half of the photo above is mum, my sister and me in Ibiza, June 2019. The bottom half of the photo is mum, my sister and me in February 2020. Yes, only 7 months apart! The last 7 months have been the most challenging time of our lives, our mum is being taken from us far too soon. Mum was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in August 2019 and given 6 - 8 weeks to live with no treatment, I felt my whole world was just falling apart in front of me and there was nothing I could do. My mum being the super strong lady she is decided it was not her time to go and opted for Chemo and fought with everything she had and often told us I'm not ready to leave you. Following treatment mum went into LOROS for rehabilitation and on the 10th Jan mum took a turn for the worse and we were called in by the team at LOROS, mum was put on end of life care and we were preparing ourself for the worse. A few days later our super strong mum again decided she wasn't quite ready to leave us and started fighting with everything she had and on the 31st January we brought mum home for some quality time with her family.  When the time is right Mum will return to LOROS but for now we would like to say a huge thank you to the whole team at LOROS, the way you love, support and care for patients and their families is simply amazing and we will be forever grateful for everything.

My first step to fundraising for LOROS ... a SKYDIVE!!! The people that know me well know I don't do things by halves!

Mum passed away peacefully on 6th March in LOROS surrounded by her loved ones 💕

We will continue to raise funds for this wonderful charity as a family ❤️WATCH THIS SPACE!!!

LOTS OF LOVE Di’s loving family & friends
