WHY AND FOR WHAT PURPOSE SHOULD YOU SPONSOR ME?

I am trying to raise money for the VSO which is a worthwile development charity. The plan is to work in overseas and uk communities, helping to fight poverty and make sustainable changes which will develop areas!

We focus on global issues, ie. AIDS/HEALTH/POVERTY/SOCIAL COHESION/ GOVERNANCE AND PARTICIPATION and the aim is to become global citizens. This involves having an idea about how to work towards sustainable development and positively helping communities in the long-term.

The Global Xchange programme is based on 5 aims:

1)POVERTY AND DIVERSITY

2)DIVERSITY

3)SOCIAL ACTION

4)COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

5)VOLUNTEERING!!!!

WHAT ARE MY FUNDRAISING INTENTIONS??

My plan is to attempt an 18 mile walk along the theme of 'walking towards community development'.

I am walking on the 24th February along 'Clarendon Way' which covers the distance between Winchester and Salisbury. It's going to be quite challenging walking for the best part of a day and I'm going to see if I can complete the walk in the quickest time possible.

WHAT AM I DOING WITH THE VSO?

I am going on a Glasgow/Syria Xchange from March 2008. I will spend 3 months in Glasgow, living with a host (volunteer) family and my counterpart from Syria. Four days a week we will undertake volunteer work on a special placement and for one day a week we meet up as a group, working on a community project.

After the 3 months are up (in mid-June), we fly out to Syria and do the same thing but in a completetly different environment!!
