Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
Formerly homeless residents (Companions) who live at the Emmaus Leeds Community are organising a walk from Leeds - Skipton to raise money for their local hospice. It takes £9million a year to run the hospice and after already raising £2,000 at a previous fundraising event Companions were given a tour to see what their money would be used for. They were bowled over by the personalised care and compassion shown to every patient and visitor to the hospice and they wanted to do more to help
Rather than raising money for their own charity Companions were keen to follow the Emmaus ethos of solidarity and helping others by drawing attention to such a worthy cause and raising funds that are vitally needed for patient care.
Leaving Granary Wharf in Leeds at 7:30am on 22nd July; Companions, Volunteers, Staff, Trustees and friends of Emmaus Leeds will be setting off to walk 29 miles to reach Skipton, following the Leeds-Liverpool Canal. Many of the Companions leading the walk have recently suffered health issues and are using this walk as an opportunity to get fit and healthy again. They will also be dedicating their Sundays to training up for the event over the next few months.
