Story

Thank you for visiting our JustGiving page.

We're companions at Emmaus South Wales and we are doing the Couch to 5K programme to challenge ourselves, get fit and raise money for the charity that has given us a home, a sense of purpose and a reason to get out of bed in the morning.

Jemma Wray, the Chief Executive at Emmaus South Wales is helping us with this programme and we will be running three days per week for the next 9 weeks with her. We are all beginners but raring to go!

What does Emmaus South Wales do for companions?
Emmaus South Wales supports people, known within Emmaus as companions, who have been homeless or socially excluded by providing a home with no time limit, the opportunity to gain work experience in a social enterprise, daily support and funded training. Every companion has their own room and access to shared communal spaces. All living expenses are covered and each companion receives a weekly allowance on top of this. Emmaus South Wales creates a leaving fund for each companion so when they are ready to move on they will receive a lump sum to help them cover expenses. The Emmaus South Wales community is like a family. Companions look out for each other and regularly take part in group activities such as quiz nights, gardening, walks, and have created a companion book club.

It costs Emmaus South Wales approximately £150 per week for each companion supported. We hope to raise £4,500 between us to support the Emmaus South Wales community and help our fellow companions, as well as new companions joining our community.

Any amount you can spare will be gratefully received.

Thanks so much! Paul, Michelle, Shaun, and Angela x
