Story

My story is that Motor Neurone Disease is going to take away
more than just my Dad it is going to take away my best friend. My father is
Dominic O’Hara and he was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease back in October
2020. For anyone reading this that knows me in real life will already be aware
of how much my Dad means to me and how hard it is to write this never mind set
up this page.  As many people also know
it is just my dad, sister and I at home as we lost our mum to breast cancer
when we were younger so as you can imagine finding out the news that our Dad is
also now ill with a cruel disease is very hard to come to terms with and
accept. At the moment I can only look at the situation with frustration, anger
and sadness but as my dad has always taught me – you have to look towards the
future. My dad is the reason I am here today therefore I feel I must keep
pushing on in life in order to make him as proud as possible. To watch my dad,
lose my mum and keep going to provide me and Aimee with everything he possibly
could of is enough and will always be enough, he is an inspiration and I will
be forever grateful.

I have currently paused my university studies in order to
take care of my dad full time to ensure I have peace of mind that I am doing
everything I can possibly do for him – as he has done for me all my life. As I
have gotten older, I have realised my dad would have done anything in the world
for me and my sister Aimee. With the maturity of getting older you begin to
realise it is not the big things in life that matter but the small things such
as family, health and happiness. I think if I were to
give any piece of advice to anyone it would be: the death of a parent could
happen at any time and if it hasn’t happened already appreciate the time you
have with them even the small moments and take nothing for granted in life
because a lot can change within a year.

To raise money for the charity Motor Neurone Disease Northern
Ireland and to make my dad proud I will be running 10 half marathons in 10 days
from the 13th of September to the 23rd of September. The
first five days of my challenge will take place in Derry, Northern Ireland
which is where I was raised and grew up. The second half of my challenge will
take place in Liverpool, England which is where I have lived for the past four
years – and holds a special place within mine and my dads’ heart.

I have set up an Instagram account as well to record footage
and post training updates throughout the coming months to document my journey
towards my challenge.

Please support me in anyway you can by donating to and
sharing my Just Giving Page, following my social media accounts and sharing
your messages of support for me and my challenge.

Thank you.
