Rickshaw Run January 2015 · 4 January 2015 to 31 January 2015 ·
The Emslie Brothers are attempting to drive nearly 2000 miles across a continent, all in a motorised Tuk Tuk.
We are giving ourselves almost 3 weeks to complete this crazy trip through India, from 27th December - 14th January 2015.
Making no bones about this, the trip is in equal measure the single stupidest thing we will have done, whilst being an unforgettable roller coaster of a ride, full of ups and downs....particularly as the Tuk Tuks (Rickshaws) don't have any suspension. We will need to average around 100 miles per day in what has been described as a motorised lawnmower (for those mechanics reading, you will no doubt already know that a lawnmower is in fact twice as powerful as the engine we will have).Break downs will be frequent, leaving us to rely on nothing more than the generosity of the local people, and blind luck to help fix our little rickshaw so that we can drive another day. The following website is very good at summarising how insane this trip will be: http://www.theadventurists.com/rickshaw-run
By now many of you will think that we are either mental, or have a death wish (it might be appropriate to mention that last year India won the award for the 'Most Dangerous Roads in the World' category); and to an extent you would be correct; but in reality we want to have the time of our life taking on a challenge that we probably shouldn't.
We have financed the whole trip ourselves, but have seen it as an opportunity to raise money for charity too! I know there are a lot of charity appeals around this time of the year, but not many people can sponsor a hair brain idea such as this to raise money. None of the money you give will go towards funding our trip, all of it will go towards our designated charity, Cool Earth.
During our trip we will travel through some of the most diverse rainforest the Indian continent has to offer, so it is appropriate that Cool Earth works closely with Indigenous villages to halt rain forest destruction. They do not buy land. Due to the nature of the trip, Cool Earth can guarantee that 90p of every £1 spent will go directly to assisting indigenous villages in carefully selected regions. In total they help 65 villages world wide and work to put local people in legal control of 'at-risk' rainforest. That means protecting rainforest that has been targeted for logging within the next 18 months. Forming non-logging agreements, building better incomes, schools and clinics form Cool Eaths' strategy of protection.

Our target is to raise £1000.
After some discussion we decided that once we get to £500, James will eat some 'delicious' local street food (a locally sourced and deep fried scorpion has been kindly offered). If we can get to our magic total of £1000 another humiliating ordeal will be carried out; all 3 of us will perform a traditional Indian dance to a crowd. All in the name of charity folks!
