On the 4th May 2014 my amazing daddy very sadly took his own life. It was heartbreaking time and was something I never expected to go through. Losing my daddy has been one of the hardest things to get through and I would never wish for any other family to go through it, therefore I have decided to do the Yorkshire 3 Peaks in order to raise money for Mind, a charity which helps individuals with their mental health. Maybe if my dad had received help from them then maybe he would still be here today.
Walking was one of my dads biggest passions and I have many memories as a child where we went walking together or held checkpoints for the different walks he was involved in, so it feels
right to complete the Yorkshire 3 peaks in memory of Benjamin. Me and my lovely friends will be completing the walk on Sunday 24th June and are hoping to raise as much money as possible!
Suicide is something that I believe has a negative stigma attached to it. It needs to be talked about more as it is something that affects everyone. In this day and age we all know someone that has taken their own life. 84 men take their own life each week and in 2016, three quarters of all suicides were men. It is time to start talking, no individual should ever feel in so much pain they feel the only way out is to take their own life.
I am well aware that the Yorkshire 3 peaks will be incredibily difficult but I believe that if I can get through the pain of losing a parent to suicide then I get through anything!
