For 35 years Oasis has been helping to build community where everyone can thrive. We work to reduce exclusion and create opportunity for all, providing joined-up education, housing, health, justice, youth and family support.

Story

With my friend Kevin Ward, I have cycled from Lands End to John O'Groats during the first two weeks of June this year. To see some photos from the trip view the web page at www.xmedix.co.uk/End2End4Net2Work.htm.

I'm hoping to use the achievement to raise lots of money for Oasis Uganda.
(Kevin is separately raising money for Cancer Research).

Please dig deep and sponsor me online now. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Oasis UK will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

Many thanks for your support.

About Net2Work Uganda

Net2Work is a global Oasis initiative, providing IT training opportunities for the world’s poor across 5 continents.

Net2Work Uganda runs a successful and popular 3-month full-time training course in IT and job skills for 25 young people aged 16-24.  Students are selected on the basis of poverty levels and incomplete schooling.  Many students have lost one or both parents and have little hope of finding work to support themselves and their families.

By teaching practical skills and building confidence we are equipping these young people to be able to find employment and to improve their prospects as a result.  This has been very successful with an average of 40% of our students continuing on to employment and a further 15% returning to education. In addition to training these young people, Net2Work also runs a variety of computer classes and an internet café for the benefit of the local community.

In addition, Net2Work has been designed to be a replicable programme to be run through partner agencies through ‘eAcademies’. eAcademies are small computer training projects run in partnership with another organisation or church, where Oasis facilitates the training for the community where the partner is based. Since the inception of Net2Work, Oasis Uganda has been able to increase its impact through supporting 3 eAcademies in Kampala, though as of September 2007 one eAcademy is operating in Gulu, north of Uganda. Net2Work is yet to establish 2 other eAcademies in Pader and Mbale as well
