Story

I have decided to run this year's London Marathon in support of Endometriosis UK to support their work advocating for endometriosis sufferers.

What is endometriosis?

Endometriosis is a gynaecological condition affecting around 1.5 million in the UK, where cells similar to the ones in the lining of the uterus are found elsewhere in the body. This can create inflammation, pain, and the formation of scar tissue. Endometriosis can have a significant impact on a person's life in devastating ways, including:

- Chronic pain
- Fatigue/lack of energy
- Depression/isolation
- Problems with relationships
- Difficulty fulfilling school, work and social commitments

There is currently no cure for endometriosis however with the right treatment, many of these issues can be addressed and the symptoms of endometriosis made more manageable.

Why Endometriosis UK?

With endometriosis affecting a whopping 1 in 10 women, it's likely we all have a friend, relative, partner or colleague who suffers with this debilitating condition. However, statistics reveal that 69% of males have never even heard of it and studies have found that it takes an average of 8 years to receive a diagnosis from first reporting symptoms.

I'm keen to boost awareness around endometriosis as I've seen first hand how tough it can be for sufferers to live with following my wife's diagnosis in 2013. It's hard when you see someone close to you struggling. It would only be a positive thing if people felt like they could talk about it with others to help our understanding of an illness which affects so many people in our world.

As a charity, Endometriosis UK is lobbying for change and providing vital support services, reliable information and a community for those affected by endometriosis. Your donation will help to continue their amazing work.
