"HELP Endowment Fund"
This year (2022) marks HELP’s 12th anniversary and 10th year since HELP and School in a Bag formed a partnership. Together we are proud to announce that we have supported 20,000 children from over 200 public schools across 20 districts in Nepal. And, we wish to continue doing this. Please see a video link of our SchooBags being handed out!

On this occasion, we have decided to set up the HELP Endowment Fund with a plan to keep providing resources and means to educate more children in Nepal. Our target is to raise USD 100,000 so that any bank interest generated out of it will be directed to support at least 20 students each year to receive scholarships after they finish school to pursue their higher education. Our plan through this endowment fund is to support students further their education who received HELP's support such as School in a Bag and did very well academically but are struggling to pay for their tuition fees.
A friend of ours, Lucy Needham, facilitated donating USD 11,000 to help set up such a fund through Robin Needham Memorial Fund (RNMF). The RNMF was instituted in 2005 in the loving memory of Robin Needham who was the Country Director of Care Nepal, when he lost his life in the process of saving the lives of many people during the devastating tsunami in 2004, in Thailand. Given his deep interest and support for the education of children from underprivileged families, Care Nepal staff and Robin’s family and friends organized a fund-raising drive and instituted the RNMF.
In handing the donation, Lucy Needham said
"I have closely followed and observed the work done by HELP for many years and once took part in the school building inauguration ceremony in 2016. I have full confidence that HELP will not only spend this donation for a good cause but will leverage this donation for an endowment so that they can continue to support more children from Nepal who needs assistance from organisations like HELP"
School in a Bag, as a charity, was founded in memory of Pier Simon, who also, unfortunately, died in the Tsunami. Luke Simon, the founder of School in a Bag met Lucy in Thailand when they were both searching for their beloved ones and Jimmy at HELP in Nepal met Lucy through whom a connection with School in a Bag was established in 2012. It is now more than a coincidence that these three forces have come together to set up an Endowment Fund to support more children in Nepal.
HELP has been running Scholarship Programme for over a decade to
support students who are academically sound but financially struggling to mainly pursue their education post grade 10 or SEE
(equivalent to GCSE). We have thus far supported nearly 600 students over the past 10 years with full and partial tuition fees to study grades 11 and 12. The continuity of this support lies in our ability to raise funds. Thankfully, through Mondo Foundation and our past volunteers, we have managed to support as many as 40-50 students each year. We wish to do this in a much more sustainable way and thus the endowment will enable us to continue this programme for many years to come. In addition to our annual scholarship scheme, HELP is also grateful to be hosting Bharosa Scholarship Programme to provide scholarships for students of any age between grades 1 to 12.
We started this by supporting students who lost their parents due to
Covid. We are currently supporting 40 students from 20 districts under this scheme. The endowment fund will also enable us to continue this support.
Please support us to grow this fund from USD 11,000 or Nrs. 13,75,000 we have in our bank account. You can contact us at info@help.org.np for any fundraiser or events you can host where we will be happy to share our ideas about what we plan to achieve.
Thank you so much!
